zoo's who

Bibliographic Information: Florian, D. (2005). Zoo's who. Orlando, FL: Harcourt, Inc.

Genre/Type: Poetry

Summary: This is a poetry book containing short poems about 21 animals-- some more informative than others. Each poem mentions something about the animal. While the poems about a couple of the creatures (such as the ant) are not informative, most other poems mention something about the animal's characteristics or habitat. Each poem has a large picture accompanying it on the adjacent page.

Theme/Purpose: The purpose of this book is to expose children to poetry while teaching them about various animals.

Selection/Evaluation: I believe this is a good book to have in the classroom, for even if it does not explicitly point out animal needs, characteristics, and adaptations, these can be inferred from pictures and text. I wanted to include a poetry book in this text-set because the importance of poetry often goes unnoticed.
